What is Impact Winter?

Impact Winter is a vampire-apocalypse audio drama created by Travis Beacham. Its premise begins after a comet strike leaves the world without sunlight. In a frozen British landscape, survivors shelter around a medieval fortress while the sisters Darcy and Hope Dunraven face life in a world transformed.

You do not need to know the later plot to decide whether to sample it. The starting appeal is the combination of survival, family conflict and creatures that thrive in the dark.

For October listening, it offers an alternative to a familiar gothic classic: a story created for audio, with a continuing cast and a season structure. If our Dracula guide brought you here, this is another vampire production to investigate, with a very different setting.

The three-season listening order

OrderEnglish recordingListed durationOriginal release
1Impact Winter4 hours 55 minutesFebruary 17, 2022
2Impact Winter Season 25 hours 38 minutesJuly 13, 2023
3Impact Winter Season 37 hours 33 minutesJuly 18, 2024

The three recordings add up to 18 hours 6 minutes. These durations refer to the complete season listings, rather than individual podcast episodes.

Listen in order. Later seasons continue the story and their official descriptions can reveal major earlier developments. For a first listen, avoid reading every synopsis before starting.

These are the three English seasons covered here. Three available seasons should not be read as a guarantee that the narrative is complete or that a further season has been announced.

Begin with Season 1

The first season is the shortest complete recording of the three, making it the natural starting point for deciding whether you enjoy this world and its production style.

Use the preview to test the combination of voices and atmosphere. Can you easily follow the dialogue? Does the darker tone feel like something you want to spend time with? If the sample suits you, begin the story rather than jumping to a later season because its cast list looks appealing.

Continue with Season 2

Season 2 continues the sisters’ story after the first season. This is a sequel, not a revised or extended edition of the opening recording.

If you have had a long break, refresh your memory of where Season 1 ended before pressing play. A chapter bookmark or a few notes are enough; a detailed online recap may spoil the sequel while trying to explain the first season.

Check the season number at purchase. A retailer page for the series can contain separate recordings with similar artwork, so the title is a better safeguard than the image alone.

Then move to Season 3

Season 3 is the longest of the three listed recordings. Audible’s 2024 production announcement confirms an expanded ensemble, with returning performers including Holliday Grainger, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caroline Ford and Sacha Dhawan, and new performers including Christina Chong.

For listeners reaching it for the first time, the useful information is its place in the sequence and its length. You can discover the plot changes through the performances instead of reading them in advance.

Why this is audio drama, not a conventional audiobook reading

Audible identifies the series as an original scripted production with a full cast and immersive 3D audio. Its announcement for the third season also identifies Dolby Atmos presentation for Seasons 2 and 3.

The important distinction is where the story started. Rather than taking a prose novel and assigning its pages to a reader, this series was created for audio. Dialogue, performances and sound are part of its form.

That can be a strong reason to explore it if you enjoy scenes staged through voices. It also means you should test the production in the circumstances where you normally listen. A sound-rich scene that absorbs your attention at home may be harder to follow while you are distracted.

Spatial-audio support and account access should be checked in the current app and edition information. A production feature or an older membership announcement does not establish that every plan, player or listening setup behaves identically today.

Is Impact Winter suitable for family listening?

This is an adult horror recommendation. Audible’s series listing marks the content for mature audiences and notes adult language and themes. Treat that information as part of the choice, even if the fantasy premise looks like an adventure story.

For a family listen, our Harry Potter edition guide is a more relevant starting point. A familiar actor or a short running time does not make a production appropriate for children.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to read a book first?

No. Impact Winter was created as an original audio saga. Start with its first season.

Can I listen to Season 3 on its own?

For the continuing story, listen to Seasons 1 and 2 first. Later descriptions and scenes assume earlier developments.

Are all three seasons automatically included together?

Check the terms shown for your account and each linked recording. Do not assume that accessing one season gives you permanent access to the others.
