What did you want more of after Dracula?
Jonathan Bailey and Ella Purnell’s Dracula can send you in several directions: another vampire story, a darker fantasy world, survival horror or a familiar classic performed by an ensemble. These five English-language productions keep different parts of that appeal. Choose by the experience you want next, rather than treating every full-cast title as the same kind of listen.
| What you want | Start here | Length or format | Edition detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| More vampires | Impact Winter — Season 1 | 4 h 55 | Original audio drama; start at Season 1 |
| Another dark fantasy world | The Sandman — first installment | 11 h 02 | A longer, adult ensemble production |
| Survival horror | Alien: Out of the Shadows | 10 episodes | The linked US edition is an episode collection |
| Another classic performed by actors | George Orwell’s 1984 | 3 h 27 | Dramatized adaptation |
| A change of mood with a full cast | Pride and Prejudice | 4 h 34 | Romance adaptation, not horror |
This is an editorial selection based on production information and store listings checked on October 20, 2026, rather than a claim to have personally reviewed all five performances. The links identify US-store editions; availability and membership options depend on your location and account.
1. Impact Winter: keep the vampires, change the world
A comet strike leaves the world without sunlight. In the frozen landscape that follows, sisters Darcy and Hope Dunraven face a reality where vampires can thrive. Travis Beacham’s original scripted audio drama swaps Dracula’s gothic setting for survival, family tensions and a story that continues across seasons.
Choose it for: vampires and an ensemble story built for audio. Start with the first season, listed at 4 hours 55 minutes. Later seasons continue the story, so choosing the newest listing first can both confuse the sequence and reveal earlier developments.
Before committing: this is adult horror. A seasonal structure also means that one purchase or library selection should not be assumed to include every season. Our Impact Winter listening-order guide separates the recordings.
2. The Sandman: follow a cast into dark fantasy
Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, returns to a realm damaged during his captivity. The audio adaptation of the comics opens a much larger web of characters, myths and linked stories. James McAvoy plays Dream, with Kat Dennings among the ensemble and Neil Gaiman narrating.
Choose it for: a substantial fantasy world and the contrast between different performers. The first English installment runs 11 hours 2 minutes, making it a longer commitment than the compact classic adaptations in this list. Its adult themes also mean that a story about dreams should not be mistaken for a children’s bedtime listen.
Begin with The Sandman before Act II or Act III. Our guide to the linked Sandman recordings explains the order and individual editions; you do not have to choose every act at once.
3. Alien: Out of the Shadows: move the danger into a ship
A mining crew encounters a threat its damaged ship cannot contain, and Ellen Ripley becomes part of the crisis. Dirk Maggs’s full-cast production features Rutger Hauer, Corey Johnson and Laurel Lefkow. It keeps the appeal of performed horror while replacing castles and vampires with confinement, machinery and survival in space.
Choose it for: the idea of a creature close by in a place you cannot easily leave. The linked US listing presents the performance as a collection of ten episodes. Start at Episode 1 and follow the numbered sequence.
The edition trap: a separate Amazon audiobook with the same title is read by Jeff Harding. That is the novel narration, not this full-cast performance. Our Alien edition guide explains the difference.
4. George Orwell’s 1984: another classic, another kind of fear
Andrew Garfield plays Winston, Cynthia Erivo Julia, Andrew Scott O’Brien and Tom Hardy Big Brother in this 3-hour-27-minute Audible Original adaptation. It is a way to follow a recognisable cast into a familiar literary story while changing genre entirely.
Choose it for: the pressure of surveillance, secrecy and a relationship formed under an oppressive system. The menace is political and psychological. An original score and sound design form part of the staged performance.
The Joe White adaptation is different from an unabridged reading of every line of Orwell’s novel. If you want to follow a printed copy sentence by sentence, compare a novel narration instead. See the cast and format of this 1984 production.
5. Pride and Prejudice: keep the ensemble, leave the horror
Harris Dickinson and Marisa Abela play Darcy and Elizabeth in a 4-hour-34-minute adaptation, alongside an ensemble including Glenn Close and Bill Nighy. This choice is for listeners whose interest in Dracula came mainly from hearing actors respond to one another, and who would now enjoy a romance.
Choose it for: dialogue, relationships and a different mood. It is the biggest tonal change in the selection. Lulu Raczka’s adaptation stages Austen’s story; it should not be selected on the assumption that it reads every sentence of the original novel.
Check the two leads and the English language on the listing, since this production also has adaptations with different casts in other languages. Our Dickinson and Abela edition guide identifies this performance.
One next listen is enough to choose
For the closest thematic connection, start with Impact Winter. For a longer fantasy world, try the first Sandman installment. For survival horror, open Alien’s full-cast episode collection. Choose 1984 for another performed classic or Pride and Prejudice for a romance after the darkness.
Listen to the preview before buying or choosing a membership option. Match the language, performers and format, and check whether the listing is a whole story, one season or a set of episodes. Return to our Jonathan Bailey Dracula guide if you are still choosing which Dracula recording to start with.
